Sidcup Signage
My small business at school, designing a new way finding system across the estate.
In 2014, the headmaster at my secondary school asked me and a friend to make two signs for him. We were keen DT-enthusiasts and jumped at the chance.
What soon followed, was a project that spanned until the end of my school career and produced over 100 signs for the school and a number of private projects.
It was established as a joint project between myself and a peer, and we worked jointly to consult stakeholders, design systems, produce mock ups and then roll-out final products. We would regularly handover finished signs to the estates team who would put them up for us.
The signs were a success – I soon had a couple of private orders coming in. I came to an agreement with the headteacher that in exchange for my time and services creating these for the school, I could use extra material and the production equipment for my own use.
I create signs for a number of my dad’s colleagues – and even went as far as a sign for an officer in the Pakistani Army!
I later received a commendation at the Bexley Civic Celebration for my work and the Parents Association ‘Prize for Endeavour’. It was great to be in such a supportive and encouraging environment – one that truly helped foster my growth mindset.
